Frequently asked questions

What qualifies as an MSME in India?
Classification is by investment in plant & machinery/equipment and turnover: Micro (investment up to ₹1 crore, turnover up to ₹5 crore), Small (₹10 crore / ₹50 crore) and Medium (₹50 crore / ₹250 crore). Both manufacturing and service enterprises use the same limits. Budget 2025 proposed raising these limits — check udyamregistration.gov.in for current thresholds.
Is Udyam registration mandatory to get scheme benefits?
Practically yes. Udyam Registration is free, Aadhaar-based, and is a stated eligibility condition for most central schemes (PMEGP second loans, PSB59, public procurement benefits, delayed-payment protection). It's the first item on our compliance checklist.
Are subsidies given as cash upfront?
Rarely. Most are credit-linked (the subsidy is adjusted against a bank loan, e.g. PMEGP margin money), reimbursement-based (you spend first and claim, e.g. trade-fair support), or take the form of guarantees (CGTMSE covers your collateral-free loan rather than paying you).
Is msmeindia.ai a government website?
No. MSME India is an independent, privately operated advisory platform. We curate scheme information from official sources, verify it periodically, and always link to the official portal where the actual application happens.
How current is the scheme information?
Every scheme entry carries a "last verified" date and verification notes. Government scheme rules change frequently — if you spot something outdated, tell us and always confirm on the linked official portal before applying. Browse the catalogue here.
Do you file the application for me?
Not yet. Applications are filed on each scheme's official portal (we link to it). Our tracker keeps your applications organised through Application → Inspection → Sanction, and our checklist makes sure your documentation is ready before you start.
Which schemes suit a brand-new business?
PMEGP (new micro-enterprises), Mudra loans under PMMY, Stand-Up India (SC/ST and women), and CGTMSE-guaranteed collateral-free loans are the usual starting points. Run the eligibility check — it automatically filters out schemes that require operating history.
What documents should every MSME keep ready?
The recurring set across schemes: Udyam certificate, PAN & GST registration, last 1–3 years' ITRs, 6–12 months' bank statements, KYC of proprietor/directors, and a project report for loan-linked schemes. Each scheme page lists its exact requirements.
